Investigating the Electron Beam Transport in a Linear Induction Accelerator for X-Ray Flash Radiography

摘要
Radiographic sources based on Linear Induction Accelerators (LIA) are used worldwide for investigating the structural response of matter under impulsive loading during hydrodynamic experiments. At CEA DAM, X-Ray flash radiography experiments are performed on the UK/FR joint facility EPURE, a unique triple-axis radiographic facility with two LIAs and one Inductive Voltage Adder “MERLIN”. Electron beam properties influence directly the final quality of the radiographies. Therefore, comprehension and prediction of the electron beam dynamic appear essential to guarantee correct realization of the hydrodynamic experiments. Simulation codes based on different formalisms such as envelope and particle-in-cell codes are used to predict the beam properties.
