Challenge and Innovation of CAR-T Cell Therapy for Gastric Cancer: Target Antigens and Side Effects

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of digestive tract worldwide. The clinical symptoms of early GC are hidden and the prognosis of advanced GC is poor. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell has got a great number of advantages such as strong lethality, high targeting, lasting curative effect and so on. The application of CAR-T cell therapy for hematological malignancies has made a major breakthrough. However, some problems still exist in the application of CAR-T cell for GC. The effect of CAR-T cell therapy for GC can be effectively enhanced by selecting effective antigen targets, reducing side effects and applying many innovative strategies. This article summarizes the development and characteristics as well as novel target antigens and severe side effects of CAR-T cell therapy in the treatment of GC to explore the possibility of benefit from CAR-T cell therapy in patients with advanced GC in the future.
