Recurrent Abdominal Pain Associated with Small Intestinal Edema.

Question: A 48-year-old woman had acute repeated severe abdominal pain for 20 years. The abdominal pain was accompanied by nausea and vomiting, had no correlation with eating habits and body position, and always resolved after 3 to 5 days without specific treatment. In the past 3 years, similar self-limited episodes occurred every month. The patient has no previous history of surgery and special medication. The inquired family history revealed that her sister and mother also had a recurring history of severe abdominal pain.
