个人简介
Prof. Frank Lohr received his medical degree from Heidelberg University, Germany. Residency followed at the Dept. of Radiation Oncology of Heidelberg University and the German Cancer Research Center (dkfz), Heidelberg. During residency, he spent two years in radiobiological research on hyperthermia induced gene therapy at Duke University, NC, USA. Following his residency, he joined the team at the Dept. of Radiation Oncology at University Medical Center Mannheim, University of Heidelberg as attending physician, where he became vice chairman in 2004 and associate adjunct professor in 2005. He is currently the director of the Unita Operativa di Radioterapia, Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria, Policlinico, Modena and Associate Professor of the University of Modena and Reggio-Emilia (UniMoRe). He is also the Director of the residency program in Radiation Oncology at UniMoRe.
Prof. Lohr has special interest in precision radiotherapy techniques such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT) (performed the second VMAT treatment in Germany), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) and total body irradiation (TBI). The department of Radiation Oncology at University Medical Center Mannheim was an early adopter of stereotactic ultrasound technology, Cone-Beam CT (first in Germany) and has explored its use in SBRT and other clinical indications since.
His main clinical interest is in Lung Cancer, Gastric Cancer, Head and neck Tumors, CNS tumors and Prostate cancer where he was the clinical lead for Germany/Austria/Switzerland of the first phase III trial combining Radiotherapy and active Immunotherapy
Going forward, his main interests will be the interdisciplinary optimization of surgery, systemic therapy (particularly Immunotherapy) and radiotherapy as well as the optimization of local radiotherapy based on optimal integration of imaging modalities such as MRI (e.g. IO-Nanoparticles) and PET. In addition, new combined treatment approaches in advanced metastatic disease and oligometastatic disease (e.g. in kidney cancer and ovarian cancer) are of interest.
Prof. Lohr has been lead faculty of international IMRT/VMAT and EMR-courses and observational trainings that are held several times every year at UMM, with a total of more than 500 attendants over the last 10 years and was Co-Director of the ESTRO Course for IMRT that is held annually for more than 100 international participants.
Prof. Lohr has contributed to more than 200 peer-reviewed and medline-listed scientific articles, textbook chapters and textbooks and was co-editor of a German standard radiotherapy textbook. He is reviewer for several international journals and is on the editorial board of “Strahlentherapie und Onkologie”, the journal of the German society for Radiation Oncology (DEGRO) and “Radiation Oncology” and is a member of AIRO and ESTRO.
