James W. Hannigan

James W. Hannigan received the B.S. degree in physics from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO, USA, in 1987, and the M.S. degree in atmospheric physics from the University of Denver, Denver, CO, USA, in 1991. He is currently a Project Scientist with the Atmospheric Chemistry, Observations and Modeling Laboratory, National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO, USA. His areas of expertise are in Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and remote sensing of the atmosphere. He applies these techniques toward the improvement of retrievals from the observations of trace atmospheric constituents to understand the trends of long-lived species that affect climate, stratospheric ozone, and biosphere–atmosphere interactions and also shorter term events, such as biomass burning, air pollution, and volcanoes that have important effects on our air quality. Mr. Hannigan is a member of the American Geophysical Union.
